Practice Standards & Privacy Policy
Professional Hypnotism is a separate and distinct profession from all other healing methods. While it is true that some psychologists and mental health professionals employ hypnotism as a part of their practice, it is not necessary to seek out a psychologist to receive professional hypnotism. Hypnotists deal with self-improvement issues of individuals which do not qualify as medical disorders or are not serious enough to be considered psychological in nature. Medical, psychological, and dental referrals are accepted as a service to licensed healthcare professionals and their patients, and may be required for certain conditions.
Competence: Harley Sears is a member in good standing of the National Guild of Hypnotists. Guild members are expected to keep up to date with the latest knowledge and respond to the changing circumstances of the profession. Members are bound by a strict Code of Ethics. The information you receive about Professional Hypnotism should be honest, accurate, avoid unjustifiable claims, and be consistent with maintaining the standard of the profession.
Care: You will be informed of the likely number of sessions you may need, what the cost will be, and any other relevant information as early as possible. Your visits are designed to achieve the desired outcome in the smallest number of sessions possible. Your hypnotist will be sensitive to your beliefs, ethnic/race origins, gender and/or sexual orientation, and will not ask intrusive questions unless there is a clear and justifiable need to do so.
Notice: The state of Missouri has not adopted any educational and training standards for the practice of hypnosis. This statement of credentials is for informational purposes only. Hypnotism is a self-regulating profession and its practitioners are not licensed by state governments. Harley Sears is not a physician or a licensed healthcare provider. A Professional Hypnotist may not provide a medical diagnosis or recommend discontinuance of medically prescribed treatments. If a client desires a diagnosis or any other type of treatment from a licensed practitioner, the client may seek such services at any time. In the event that a client terminates this service, the client has a right to coordinated transfer of services to another practitioner. A client has the right to refuse services at any time. A client has a right to be free of physical, verbal or sexual abuse. A client has a right to know the expected duration of treatment, and may assert these rights without retaliation. The services rendered are held out to the public as non-therapeutic hypnotism, defined as the use of hypnosis to inculcate positive thinking and the capacity for self-hypnosis. Harley Sears does not represent these services as a form of health care or psychotherapy, and despite research to the contrary, by law he makes no health benefit claims for these services.
Redress: As a professional member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, Harley Sears practices in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Standards. If you should have a complaint about his services or behavior that he cannot resolve for you personally, you may contact the National Guild of Hypnotists at P.O. Box 308, Merrimack, NH 03054, (603) 429-9438, to seek redress. Services other than those provided by Harley may be available to you, and you may locate such providers online or in the telephone book.
Fees: The charge for professional hypnotism is $100 per session. If you choose to pay for all 3 sessions in advance, the fee is only $250. Full fee ($100.00) will be charged for appointments broken or cancelled without 12-hours notice. As a rule, payments are non-refundable.
Confidentiality: Harley will not release any information to anyone without a written authorization from you, except as provided for by law. All of your personal details, the nature of your problem, and your identity will remain confidential.
Approach: Non-Therapeutic Hypnotism is the independent use of the hypnotic arts and sciences to help clients inculcate positive thinking and the capacity for self-hypnosis. This is a form of motivational coaching designed to increase the clients enthusiasm for self-improvement using self-help techniques.
